1 Energy Assistance Initiative global Energy interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization GEIDCO March, 2017 2 China s Proposal On September 26, 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed discussions on establishing global Energy interconnection , or GEI, to facilitate efforts to meet global power demands with clean and green alternatives at the UN Sustainable Development Summit. Promote Energy revolution and clean Energy development and combat climate change on a global scale Embark a new journey for sustainable Energy development Warmly welcomed and actively responded by the international community 3 GEIDCO Overview The global Energy interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) was officially established on March 29th,2016 with its permanent office located in Beijing, China.

2 GEIDCO aims to promote GEI development to meet the global electric power demand with clean and green alternatives, help realize the UN target of Sustainable Energy for All and climate change initiatives, and to serve the sustainable development of humanity. 4 Background: Affordable and clean Energy is an crucial goal for the UN 2030 agenda for sustainable development (SDG 7), but also the cornerstone to realize the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as No Poverty, Good Health, Quality Education, Clean Water, Industry, and Climate Action. Aim of Initiative : Through conducting pilot project to improve Energy efficiency, develop clean Energy and promote growth, progress and sustainable development.

3 Partners of Initiative : GEIDCO, UN-OHRLLS Location One or two Least Developed Countries (LDCs) will be selected every year. Content: Pilot project and Energy aid program focusing on the construction or upgrading of local Energy facilities, such as photovoltaic power generation, wind power generation, distribution power grid. Launch of Energy Assistance Initiative Meeting Multiple SDGs through sustainable Energy 5 Project location People's Democratic Republic, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Project content: : select areas with basic but outdated power infrastructure; build distribution power lines of appropriate voltage level or upgrade its power distribution networks; and ensure power supply for relevant areas.
