1 A31D Double - Flange High- Performance Butterfly ValveThe Fisher A31D Double - Flange high-performancebutterfly valve provides outstanding performanceunder extreme pressure and temperature A31D valve is available with face-to-facedimensions conforming to ISO 5752 Butterfly ValveShort (CL150) or Long (CL300) Series (for otherface-to-face dimension requirements, consult yourEmerson sales office or Local Business Partner). Asplined shaft combines with a variety of Fisherspring-and-diaphragm or pneumatic piston keyed drive shaft combines with a variety ofhandlevers, handwheels, or pneumatic Double -actingor spring-return piston actuators.

2 These combinationsmake the A31D valve a reliable, high-performancebutterfly valve for both throttling and on-offapplications in the process A31D valve can be supplied with one of severaldynamic seals (figure 1) that can be used in a variety ofdemanding applications. With the appropriate sealselection and materials of construction, thepressure-assisted seal provides excellent shutoffagainst the full ASME class pressure Excellent Shutoff Integrity-- The pressure -assistedseal design provides tight shutoff and permits theuse of smaller actuators in applications requiring fullASME shutoff True Bi-directional Shutoff Performance -- A31 Dvalve design helps to ensure that the torquenecessary to open and close the valve is the sameregardless of the direction in which the differentialpressure is A31D Valve with 2052 Actuatorn

3 Safety-- Shaft-blowout protection is designed intothe A31D valve (figure 2). For NPS 3 through 12valves, the packing follower and an anti-blowoutfollower hold an anti-blowout gland securely aroundthe valve shaft. Under the anti-blowout gland, aformed wire ring around the shaft completes theprotection design. For NPS 14 through 24 valves,the anti-blowout gland fits securely over the valveshaft which has been turned down to form acircumferential shoulder that contacts theanti-blowout Excellent Emissions Capabilities-- The optionalENVIRO-SEAL packing system is designed withimproved sealing, guiding, and loading forcetransmission.

8 Preferred installation for the A31 Dvalve is with the flow into the shaft side of the disk(retaining ring downstream from the high pressureside of the valve).The standard soft seal offers ANSI/FCI 70-2 Class VI,bidirectional shutoff. The Phoenix III seal should beinstalled in the preferred direction to obtain optimalshutoff Performance , and it must be installed in thepreferred direction for fire-tested applications.
