2 Each year this number varies, however, as a general guide, there are around 1 30 places. The spread across countries and universities also varies. We are constantly reviewing and extending our list of partners. For further information about our current partner institutions, please see our website. Am I guaranteed a place on the Programme? If study abroad is a compulsory part of a degree then, yes, a place is guaranteed. See list below. Compulsory year abroad degrees: Aerospace Engineering with a Year in North America Biology with a Year Abroad Biomedical Science with a Year Abroad Chemistry with Study in Australasia Chemistry with Study in America Environmental Science with a Year Abroad Geography with a Year Abroad International Business Management Mechanical Engineering with a Year in North America Mathematics with a Year Abroad Physics with Study Abroad Physics and Astrophysics with Study Abroad All other students have to apply and compete for places against other applicants.

Decisions to all applicants. January to March 2018 Mandatory Orientation meetings for successful applicants. Institutional application materials and packs are given out. More information: January to March 2018 Deadline to hand in completed packages. Semester Two 2018 Receive decisions from universities, apply for housing, obtain visa etc Early May 2018 Pre-Departure Meeting July - September 2018 Departure for host institution NB: The above is the main schedule and various things are completed during these stages.

4 Further information and guidance is given to successful applicants by Global Opportunities & Exchanges. Money Who do I pay tuition fees to? You pay tuition fees to Sheffield. UK/EU students abroad during 2017/18 will pay 1,350 during the year abroad (saving of 7,650) (please be aware that this information can be subject to change if there is a change in policy) No tuition fees* are payable to the host University. *Please be aware that some universities have additional fees or standard charges which all students are required to pay. These may include things like; service, union, departmental fees. This will be outlined to you by the Host University. Is there any additional financial support? UK students are still able to apply for their tuition and maintenance student loans if they are going abroad. The University currently offers 7 scholarships of 1,000 each to Study Abroad students, kindly donated by the University of Sheffield Alumni.

5 There are also a further 15 s cholarships of 3000 on offer to Study Abroad students. External funding: The BUTEX Scholarship - E ight scholarships worth 500 each: The DUO-Singapore exchange Fellowship Award - The award is based on merit and a student will be awarded a maximum of 4,000 Euros: Accommodation The majority of previous participants have stayed in University accommodation ( halls of residence, self catering apartments etc) and some students have lived in privately owned housing.
