The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires hazardous Materials transportation Training for all persons that perform one or more of the following functions: Loading, unloading, or handling hazardous Materials ; Manufacturing, testing, reconditioning, or repairing HM packaging; Preparing hazardous Materials for transportation; Supervising or managing hazardous Materials transportation safety; or Operating a vehicle used to transport hazardous Materials The consequences of non-compliance with the DOT's Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) include: Civil and/or criminal penalties Imprisonment The HMR outlines requirements for: Receiving hazardous Materials transportation Training ; Using authorized packaging for hazardous Materials ; Communicating risks through standardized marks and labels; Preparing shipping papers to accompany the shipment.
