How can you use Transformational Geometry to create an animation? Your task in to create an animation flip book or PowerPoint slide show that shows all four transformations: Translations, Reflections, Rotation and Dilation. Requirements: -Your animation can be of whatever you like, but your main objective must be to show an object moving over a coordinate plane. -Draw each step in your animation on a separate coordinate plane, on a new piece of paper. You must use the template or graph paper with a graph in the background for all slides/pages. Templates are posted on my website: , under CC2 projects, flip book . You may make your own as well. - You must choose two rows, columns or diagonals from the project page as the minimum requirements for your animation. You may have additional transformations as well. - Minimum of 20 slides. Maximum of 150 slides. Projects cannot be more that 75 Mb to upload (see me if it is over but try hard not to get that big).

1 How can you use Transformational Geometry to create an animation?

2 -Pick a point on your image and follow it through all of your slides. create a transformation chart (example below) to show the details of the transformations between slide that shows the first location of the object and the slide that shows the final location of the object. (Only the 9 transformations from the chart have to be detailed in the table.) -Turn in your hand-drawn flip book or upload your PowerPoint through (Password is ligon). - Your drawing should be in color and creative. A story is optional but required for Advanced grades. You have to leave the grid in the background so that I can check your locations. Carefully follow the rubric. How to create a PowerPoint Animation 1. Open Microsoft PowerPoint 2. Select your title page as the first picture 3. Open the template from my website: , under CC2 projects, flip book 4. Under the Insert tab, click Picture, Clipart, or Shape 5.

3 On the slide sorter, right click your last slide and Duplicate Slide. 6. Move your pictures to their new locations. (Make sure you write your transformations in the Movement chart.) 7. Don't forget to SAVE 8. Under the Animations tab, make sure the following settings are chosen: "Fast" and "Automatically After". To Set the time for less than 1 second, use 00 where xx is a fraction of a second. Make sure "On Mouse Click" is not checked. Click "Apply to All". 9. Now you've created a basic slide show. Go to the Slide Show tab and you can watch your show "From Beginning" to see how it looks (or F5). It's when you do this, that you may find mistakes in your animation, that you may want to fix up! Movement Chart Example Slides Explain Location Original Point New Point Notation Type of Transformation/ Description 1-4 Tip of nose (9,3) (10,1) T(x,y) (x+1, y-2) Translation, right 1, down 2 2-5 Left eye (10,1) (-10,1) ry-axis (-x,y) Reflection over y-axis 4-6 Right tip of Mouth (4,3) (-3,4) R90 , (0,0) (-y,x) Rotation 90 about the origin 6-10 Tongue (3,3) (3,3) D2,(3,3)* Dilation of 2 from the point (3,3) Note: Reflections about lines other than the axes or rotations and dilations about points other than the origin only need the left side of the notation as the right side is not a simple change to the x and y coordinates.
