USE CAUTION WHEN HANDLING THE VISUAL PERFORMANCE SST & SURB efore installation : Retrofit1. Determine the location for the speaker (see SpeakerPlacement, on page 1).2. Perform an obstruction survey to be certain that there are nostuds, conduit, pipes, heating ducts, pocket doors or air returnsin the wall or ceiling cavity that will interfere with the Mounting space requirements: Large round SST & SUR:101 8" (257mm) diameter cut-out; 57 8" (149mm) depth within the mounting cavity. Large square SST:10 " x 10 " (260mm x 260mm) cut-out; 57 8" (149mm) depth within the mounting cavity. Medium round SST & SUR:8 " (210mm) diameter cut-out; 4 " (121mm) depth within the mountinig cavity.

Medium rectangle SST:615 16" x 10 " (176mm x 273mm)cut-out; 39 16" (91mm) depth within the mounting cavity. Medium ThinLine round SST:8 " (210mm) diameter cut-out; 31 32" (77mm) depth within the mounting cavity. Small round SST:57 8" (149mm) diameter cut-out; 3 7/8" (97mm) depth within the mounting cavity. Small square SST:55 8" x 55 8" (143mm x 143mm) cut-out; 3 7/8"" (97mm) depth within the mounting cavity. 4. Position the included cut-out template where the speaker is tobe located and pencil an outline on the wall or ceiling.
If youare unsure about obstructions, drill a small hole in the centerof the outline and insert a coat hanger wire into the hole tofeel-around for possible Cut the mounting hole using a keyhole or dr ywall saw, andrun the speaker wires from the mounting hole to the : Performance SST ANDSUR speakers feature exclusiveFastMount tabs and an integral Roto-Lock mounting system forquick mounting directly into existing walls and ceilings. WARNING: The edges of FastMount tabs are verysharp. Use caution when handling the Remove the paint plug from the speaker. 2. Run speaker wire from each speaker to the amplifier location. 3. Strip (6mm 12mm) of insulation from each speak-er lead.
Twist the strands or tin the exposed wire with solderto ensure that there are no stray strands. (Stray strands thattouch each other can cause a short-circuit that can damagethe amplifier.)4. The speaker s connector posts are spring-loaded. Push the topof each connector post down to open the connector and insertthe exposed wires into the holes in the posts. The speaker s positive post is labeled with a red dot; the neg-ative post is labeled with a black dot. Double-check that youconnected amplifier + to speaker + and amplifier tospeaker . 5. Make sure all the Roto-Lock clamps are in thefull clockwise positionso that they are tuckedwithin the mountinghole s border.
Insert thespeaker into the hole inthe wall or ceiling(Figure 4). The Roto-Lock systemcan accom-modate a maximumwall or ceiling materialthickness of 1 (32mm).The FastMount tabswill prevent the speak-er from falling out ofthe mounting hole, allowing the installerto let go of the speakerto pick-up tools orother items (Figure 5).NOTE: THEFASTMOUNTTABSAREDESIGNEDFORONE-TIMEUS EONLY. Thisallows you to direct sound toward or away from the listeningarea, depending on how the speakers are being used: For SST models, pivoting the woofer towards the listening position will maximize the speaker s clarity and definition. For SUR models, you can create a more diffuse, spacious surround effect by aiming the woofers towards a wall or window, away from the : WHENPIVOTING THE WOOFERS INSUR MODELSPEAKERS, MAKE SURE THAT THE TWEETERS REMAIN ORIENTEDTOWARDS THE FRONT AND REAR WALLS FOR SIDE SURROUNDSPEAKERS, AND TOWARDS THE SIDE WALLS FOR SURROUND pivot the woofer, apply pressure on theouter edge of thetweeter support brack-et, as shown in Figure7.
