2 GMfigured out a long time ago that part numbers change everyday, but groups stay consistent. Soinstead of matching up individual part numbers to Labor operations, they designed their system tomatch the part s groups are what they sound like, a grouping of parts relative to their operation or design. It isalso how the GMSPO categorizes their parts catalog. There are major sections for engine, transmis-sion, brakes, etc. that joins related parts you are faced with a difficult to find Labor operation where a part has been replaced, you canlocate suggested Labor operations. To do this you ll need to know the part group for the failed of you have an in-house invoicing system that will do this for you and print the group right on theinvoice (see example).

6 Today s LTGs have removed all references to part groups from their pages. Aswe developed more and more research the charts grew in size. Quickly, it became an indispensable toolto thousands of dealerships across the country. Of course, imitators followed but that is to be expectedfor a guide that is so useful. It is a testament to our original idea that this is critical research for thetimely payment of current research methodologyWarranty Dollars & Sense puts utmost importance on paid claims when conducting primary do this by compiling literally thousands of claims from which we can collect our raw data. Thismanual is based on our past charts combined with a new batch of research of recently paid claims,which by now numbers in the tens of thousands.

7 For this 2004 Edition, we only surveyed model years2004 2002, across all of GM s platforms. We wanted to focus in on what is working on claims today with all the new vehicle systems and changes to the LTG. Because there are occasion for you tosubmit a warranty claims (like a GMPP or part warranty) on past model years, we have left all ourlegacy data in the guide as GM obviously has a similar chart built in their system some may ask why we don t use theirchart. There are two reasons. One, quite frankly, GM isn t inclined to provide it to us. Second, GM scross-reference tables are so large that it would make the guide nearly unusable. We are aiming forspeed and efficiency, but that comes at a cost of not having 100% of potential situations covered.
