Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, deadly poison which, when breathed, deprives the body ofoxygen and causes suffocation. Exposure to air containing carbon monoxide produces symptoms ofheadache, dizziness, loss of muscular control, apparent drowsiness, and coma. Permanent brain damageor death to personnel can result from severe exposure. Carbon monoxide occurs in exhaust fumes of internal combustion engines. Carbon monoxide canbecome dangerously concentrated under conditions of inadequate ventilation. The following precau-tions must be observed to ensure safety of personnel when engine of Hippo is engine is operated in an enclosed area, ensure that all exhaust tunnels are not ventilate during engine operation.
During engine compartment occupancy, both the main access door andengine access door MUST be open and secured with their safety NOT use the engine compartment as a NOT enter the engine compartment if the CO monitor ALERT for exhaust poisoning symptoms. They are: Headache Dizziness Sleepiness Loss of muscular you see another person with exhaust poisoning symptoms: Remove person from area. Expose to fresh air. Keep person warm. DO NOT permit physical exercise. Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), if necessary. Notify a AWARE. The field protective mask for nuclear-biological-chemical (NBC) protection WILL NOT protect you fromcarbon monoxide Best Defense Against Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Is Good Ventilation!
TM 10-5430-244-10dWARNINGCONFINED SPACE ENTRY PERMITA confined space entry permit is required before entering the water tank. No one is to enter the tank withouta permit, the required training, and necessary personal protective equipment. Failure to follow this warningmay result in injury or death to DOORSWhen any access door is open, the safety brace must be used to brace the access door open. Failure to followthis warning may result in injury to personnel or damage to TRANSPORTFuel tank must be drained by Unit Maintenance prior to air transport. Failure to comply could result in injuryto personnel or damage to To avoid injury, eye protection and acid-resistant gloves must be worn when working around NOT smoke, use open flame, make sparks, or create other ignition sources around batteries.
If abattery is giving off gases, it can explode and cause injury to personnel. Remove all jewelry such asrings, ID tags, watches, and bracelets. If jewelry or a tool contacts a battery terminal, a direct short willresult in instant heating or electric shock, damage to equipment, and injury to personnel. Sulfuric acid contained in batteries can cause serious burns. If battery corrosion or electrolyte makescontact with skin, eyes or clothing, take immediate action to stop the corrosive burning effects. Failureto follow these procedures may result in injury or death to Flush with cold water for no less than 15 minutes and seek medical attention Flush with large amounts of cold water until all acid is removed.
Seek medical attention as If corrosion or electrolyte is ingested, drink large amounts of water or milk. Follow with milk of magne-sia, beaten egg, or vegetable oil. Seek medical attention Wash area with large amounts of cold water. Neutralize acid with baking soda or SUBSTANCES Inhalation of calcium hypochlorite causes irritation to eyes, nose, mouth, throat, and lungs. It may alsocause burns to respiratory tract, which can result in shortness of breath, wheezing, choking, chest pain, and lung failure. Calcium hypochlorite should be stored in its original container with the lid sealed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.
It should be kept away from heat, sparks, flames, direct sunlight, and other sources ofheat, including lighted tobacco products. Failure to comply could result in injury or death to personneland/or damage to Hippo must be inspected, cleaned, and sanitized on a regular basis. Failure to conduct a routine cleaning anddisinfecting of equipment will increase the potential for the spread of infectious diseases. Servicing personnel mustwear a mask and protective overgarments before beginning cleaning procedures. Follow the cleaning and disinfectingguidelines in TB MED 577. Unprotected personnel may experience serious side effects if residual biologicalsubstances are present.
Failure to comply may result in injury or death to personnel and/or damage to OF MATERIALSWhen servicing this equipment, performing maintenance, or disposing of materials such as lubricants, battery acidsor batteries, and CARC paint, consult your unit/local hazardous waste disposal center or safety office for local regulatorguidance. If further information is needed, please contact The Army Environmental Hotline at OF WATER Relieve pressure before disconnecting hose by closing Valve A or Valve B and opening fill port on fill to relieve pressure could result in injury or death to personnel or damage to equipment.
Relieve pressure before disconnecting hoses by closing Valve A or Valve B and opening nozzle. Failure to relievepressure could result in injury or death to personnel or damage to equipment. DO NOT stand in the path of the water when draining water from the Hippo. Injury to personnel could resultfrom the force of the SHOCKE nsure Hippo is grounded to prevent electrical shock. Hippo must be grounded at all times during operation, whetheron the ground or mounted on the prime mover (when the prime mover is stopped). Failure to follow this warningmay result in injury or death to Before engine is started, always make sure that no personnel are in the danger area (moving parts on engine ormachinery).
