Maintain insurance sufficient to meet thestandards set forth in the NS OperatingGuidelines for Contractors. Have current E-rail safe documentation. Obtain permission from a supervisor of NorfolkSouthern prior to operating on or around track. Not foul a track unless necessary in thecourse of performing their duties. It is yourresponsibility to ascertain that on-track safety isbeing provided before fouling a track. A personwill foul a track if they come within four feetof the nearest rail or such greater distance as is necessary to ensure that he/she will not be struck by railroad equipment or items protruding from it.
3 Ensure proper work apparel (including personalprotective equipment) is worn at all times. Always be aware of and minimize any exposureor damages to the environment, equipmentand lading. Participate in or conduct daily safety briefings(or more frequently as needed/when situationschange) and document when/where briefingstook place, which shall include at a minimum: Work to be performed Potential exposures Necessary safeguards for the taskto be performed Applicable rules and procedures Tools, equipment, and materials needed Weather conditions Job locations or work area Work assignments group or individualSTEP ONE: ////////////////////////////// Give norfolk southern LOADING & SecurementSolutions (L&SS) accurate ETA for on-sitearrival for both personnel and equipment.
4 Provide timely updates to the L&SS manager(face to face, cell phone, or email). Perform safety briefing. Report location and status of railcars andcargo to L&SS. Take photos of deficiencies/defects of loadsecurement associated with load shift or reasonfor transfer, such as bulged or partially opendoor(s), roller(s) off track or car damageassociated with the load shift/container, number(s),and seal number(s) (if applicable).STEP TWO: ////////////////////////////// Open the car/container, examine the interior ofcar/container, determine and document: Securement Damages (including estimated percentageof loss for the car/container) Obvious weight imbalances The shipper s LOADING pattern Any lateral/longitudinal voids Whenever possible, take photos documentingwhy the load had an issue (leaning, leaking,damage, derailment, etc.)
5 When it is necessary to transload or adjust lading,(i) inform the L&SS manager of how transload oradjustment will be performed and (ii) use AARloading, blocking, and bracing rules as a minimum,or L&SS supplied diagrams. Work safely and notify the L&SS manager immediately ofany unexpected challenges or THREE: ////////////////////////////// Take photos documenting date, time, location,and how lading was adjusted or transloaded. Photos must show how the load was corrected(before and after). Completed photo reportwill tell the story of the problem and how itwas resolved. Indicate LOADING pattern used. Indicate securement methods applied. Take photos of the new seals applied. Clean up the work site. Do not leave any materialsor trash in railcars, containers or on site.
