3 Within the following dimensional limitations:(i)For steel, aluminium and concrete lightingcolumns:(a) post top columns not exceeding 20 mnominal height;(b) columns with brackets not exceeding18 m nominal height;(c) bracket projections not exceeding xnominal height or 3 m whichever is thelesser.(ii)For glass fibre reinforced plastic lightingcolumns:(a) columns not exceeding 10 m nominalheight;(b) bracket projections not exceeding m.(iii)For steel CCTV masts:(a) post top masts not exceeding 25 mnominal height.(iv)(11/03) For steel cantilever masts:(a) nominal height not exceeding m;(b) cantilever projection not nominal height is taken as the distance betweenof the underside of the flange plate and the highestpoint of the mast (see Figure 1 of BD 88(DMRB )).

4 2(11/03) The Contractor shall propose lightingcolumns and brackets, CCTV masts and cantilevermasts which have been designed by the manufacture, supply and verification of lightingcolumns and bracket arms shall comply with the qualitymanagement scheme described in Appendix Contractor shall design foundations for plantedlighting columns and cantilever masts in accordancewith BD 26 Chapter 8 (DMRB ) or of BD 88/03 Chapter 8 (DMRB ) using the soil typeinformation as described in Appendices 13/1 and 13 Contractor shall where required design:(i)anchorages and attachment systems forcolumns and masts with flange plates tofoundation or bridge deck;(ii)foundations for columns and masts withflange plates.

5 As described in Appendices 13/1, 13/4 and 13 (05/06) Lighting columns and brackets, CCTV mastsand cantilever masts shall be supplied and installed incompliance with the relevant requirements ofBS EN 40-1, BS EN 40-3-1, BS EN 40-3-2,BS EN 40-4, BS EN 40-5, BS EN 40-6 and BS 5649-2,BS 5649-5 and BS 5649-7 together with theamendments and additions stated in Clauses 1309, 1310and 1311 and all the other requirements of this for lighting columns shall include wallmounted brackets and lighting on temporary diversions fortraffic, and crossovers, shall comply with this (11/03) Where lighting columns, CCTV masts andcantilever masts are to be in the vicinity of overheadpower lines the Contractor shall ensure that theappropriate Electricity Authorities are notified and givewritten agreement to the specific clearances to beprovided and that warning notices as described inAppendices 13/1, 13/4 and 13/7 are permanently fixedto these columns prior to (11/03) Headroom over the carriageway forcantilever mast shall be in accordance with therequirements of paragraph of Standard BD 88(DMRB ).

6 1302 (11/03) Design of Lighting Columns,Brackets, CCTV Masts, Cantilever Masts,Foundations, Anchorages and AttachmentSystems1(11/03) Lighting columns, brackets, CCTV masts,cantilever masts, the foundations of both plantedcolumns and columns and masts with flange plates, andthe anchorages and attachment systems for columns andmasts with flange plates shall be designed to complywith the requirements of Standards BD 26 ( ), BD 83 (DMRB ), BD 88 (DMRB )and the technical approval scheme adopted by theOverseeing - May 2006 VOLUME 1 SPECIFICATION for highway WorksSeries 1300 Road Lighting Columns and Brackets, CCTV Masts and Cantilever Masts3 The Contractor shall submit to the OverseeingOrganisation a copy of the design and check certificatesfor lighting columns, brackets, CCTV masts, cantilevermasts and foundations.

7 The design of the foundationsshall be appropriate to the soil types encountered onsite, as identified in Appendices 13/1, 13/4 and 13 Requirements2(11/04) The aesthetic design of lighting columns,luminaires including those with bracket arms, CCTV masts and cantilever masts shall be submitted by theContractor to the Overseeing Organisation. The designof lighting columns and luminaires including those withbracket arms shall comply with the general advice givenin BS 5489-1 for the appearance of lighting installationsby day and by night both from the viewpoint of the roadand from the surrounding (05/01) Data Sheets1(11/03) The Contractor shall complete the details inAppendices 13/2, 13/5 and 13/8 in accordance with theinstructions given in Appendices 13/3, 13/6 and 13 Contractor shall provide the OverseeingOrganisation with triplicate copies of the completedData Sheets for each type of column and bracket,CCTV mast and cantilever mast not later than the datestated in Appendices 13/1, 13/4 and 13 (11/03)

8 The columns and brackets, CCTV masts andcantilever masts shall not be ordered or erected until theOverseeing Organisation has notified its acceptance ofthe completed Data Sheet in writing to the (05/01) Identification and LocationMarkings1(11/03) All lighting columns and brackets, CCTV masts and cantilever masts shall carry uniqueidentification marks which indicate the name of themanufacturer, year of manufacture, the unique productcode and other relevant information, to enable details ofthe lighting column and bracket, CCTV masts andcantilever masts to be determined by reference to theappropriate Lighting Column and Bracket, CCTV mastsand cantilever masts Data column and mast identification marks shall bepermanent, legible and clearly visible and be:(i)on a permanent fixed label; or(ii)hard stamped.

9 Or(iii)formed in the material of the column/mast onan external face shall be located either within the base compartmentor, except in the case of hard stamping, immediatelyabove or below the door. It shall not be located on hard stamping shall be made only in a secondarymember of the column/mast and shall be done in amanner, which will not induce any stresses in thematerial of the main member of the bracket identification mark shall be permanentand legible and be:(i)hard stamped; or(ii)formed in the material of the bracket on anexternal face mark shall be located either on the luminaire spigotor on the underside of the bracket adjacent to thecolumn shaft or wall or pole mounting the bracket identification mark shallbe hard stamped or formed in a detachable labelsupplied fixed to the bracket.

10 This label shall be movedfrom its temporary position and fixed on erection to asuitably provided hole next to the label on the (11/03) In addition, location marks for inspectionand maintenance purposes shall be applied to eachcolumn as described in Appendices 13/1, 13/4 and 13 Installation of Foundations, Anchoragesand Attachment Systems(11/03) Planted Lighting Columns and CantileverMasts1(11/03) A layer of ST4 concrete 75 mm thick,complying with Clause 2602 shall be placed andcompacted in the bottom of the excavation up to thebase of the column or mast cable entry slot shall be temporarily pluggedas necessary in order to prevent any ingress of concreteor filling material during the concreting and (11/03) The hole into which the lighting column orcantilever mast is placed shall be backfilled as follows:(i)in the case of metal and glass fibrereinforced plastic columns with concrete orother material described in Appendix 13/1.
