Bob Gannon and his crew did an amazing job getting the school ready for students and staff. All fall sports teams have begun their season. 1 ochs principal s Newsletter september , 2012 WELCOME BACK! The Class of 2016 was introduced to the high school at Freshmen Orientation on August 28th. Dr. Jamison, Mr. Campo, Dr. Lentz, and Ms. Palmer spoke to the Class of 2016 and their parents. The event was attended by over 750 parents. School opened september 6th. Bob Gannon and his crew did an amazing job getting the school ready for students and staff. All fall sports teams have begun their season. Welcome to new staff members: Susan Palmer, High School Assistant principal , attended The College of New Jersey and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and continued her education at Seton Hall University where she received her Master of Arts in Education Leadership, Management and Policy.

2 Ms. Palmer is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at Seton Hall University and will earn her degree in K-12 Administration. Ms. Palmer began teaching in the Ocean City High School mathematics department and has served as the Interim Assistant principal for the past two years. Her goals include supporting and extending the school - local community relationship, promoting networking and shared ideas among students, staff, and community members, and increasing the opportunity for all students to experience the whole educational process, including academic, social, and personal developmental success.

3 As an Ocean City graduate, Ms. Palmer is happy to continue to be a part of our school s community and is excited for the start of a new school year. Christopher Banks, High School Guidance Counselor, is a graduate of York College of Pennsylvania with a BS in Business Administration and a graduate of Wilmington University with in both Elementary Education and School Counseling. Mr. Banks has worked in the guidance departments at Absegami High School and Eastern High School.

4 Mr. Banks started his professional career as a middle school math teacher in Delaware. Mr. Banks has also enjoyed playing or coaching baseball for over 25 years. Mr. Banks is looking forward to joining the Ocean City School District s family and settling in at ochs ! Amy DePasquale, High School Teacher of English, attended North Carolina State University and graduated as Valedictorian with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. While at NC State, she was a member of the Wolfpack gymnastics team.

5 Ms. DePasquale s hobbies include writing and coaching track. Ms. Depasquale looks forward to being a part of the Ocean City High School family. Alyssa Preis, High School Health and Physical Education Teacher, graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management and continued her education at Rowan University where she received her teaching certification in Health, Physical Education, and Driver's Education. Ms. Preis taught at Shawnee High School, where she also coached cheerleading.

6 Ms. Preis is a student of dance and is competitor in numerous styles of dance and is excited to start a dance program at ochs . Alisha Rittenhouse, High School Teacher of English, earned her bachelor s degree in English and religion from Rutgers University and earned her master s degree from Rutgers in secondary English education. Ms. Rittenhouse has taught at Hunter Central Regional High School and Franklin High School. In addition, she is teaching for the Center for Talented Youth (CTY) at Johns Hopkins University.

7 When Ms. Rittenhouse is not in the classroom, she loves the great outdoors, traveling to new places, and giving back to the community by working in food shelters and running charity races with friends. She is excited to work with the dynamic staff and students at Ocean City High School this year! Melissa Standish, High School Teacher of English, graduated from The College of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Secondary Education. During her time at TCNJ, Ms.

8 Standish was an active member of the campus theatre group, mainly working behind the scenes. Her hobbies include reading, sewing, and traveling with her family. Ms. Standish looks forward to joining the Ocean City School District family, and can t wait to work with the staff and students at Ocean City High School. Congratulations to senior, Dale Roeck. Dale is a Scholarship recipient in the 2012 -2013 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP). Students recognized by the NHRP are at least one-quarter Hispanic-Latino and have achieved a minimum PSAT score for their region.

9 Students with GPAs of or high are designated as Scholars. AP PROGRAM ROBUST AT OCEAN CITY HIGH SCHOOL Sixty students at Ocean City High School have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP ) Exams. The College Board s Advanced Placement Program provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams.

10 About 18 percent of the more than million high school students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to also earn an AP Scholar Award. Students took AP Exams in May 2012 after completing challenging college-level courses at their high schools. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on student s performance on AP exams. Matthew Caulfield and Sarah Ford qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a 5-point scale on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
