For an overview and/or information used for PCLaw administration, please refer to PCLaw Administration Guide and/or the associated Help files. This Guide provides PCLaw administrative personnel with a set of procedures used to install and/or update the LexisNexis PCLaw application. It also provide PCLaw administrative personnel with procedures and other information used to install and enable the PCLaw Mobility to startIf this is the first time you have installed LexisNexis PCLaw , please read this Guide carefully before proceeding. Please refer to PCLaw Pre- Installation Checklist for a complete set of instructions and the requirements needed to install the PCLaw you are updating from a previous version of LexisNexis PCLaw , please refer to the Update LexisNexis PCLaw procedure for a detailed set of PCLawInstallation& installing the softwareBefore installing any PCLaw software: nRead the Installation Guide thoroughly.
3 NReview and/or print the checklist provided to assist you in successfully completing the Installation . nCheck each item off the checklist as it is completed through completion of the Installation the Host EnvironmentBefore installing the software, it is necessary to create a healthy environment to host the LexisNexis PCLaw software. At this stage, decisions include determining the server, the operating system and database software to use, how powerful the server must be, the appropriate amount of disk space, and whether the network is capable of handling the anticipated SystemPCLaw supports the Microsoft operating system. For supported versions, see PCLaw Operating System Requirements. It is critical that the operating system used to host LexisNexis PCLaw is a supported or compatible operating a DatabaseLexisNexis supports two database models, SQL and CTree. If SQL is selected, PCLaw supports several different versions, and each one should be useable on any of the supported operating systems.
4 See PCLaw Database Requirements for additional Compliance and AssistanceIt is pertinent that each item in the checklist be reviewed and completed prior to attempting to install any PCLaw software. If further assistance is needed to ensure that items on the checklist are completed prior to installing the PCLaw software, please follow the links and/or instructions provided. nAnnual Maintenance Plan: For assistance on obtaining an Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP), please contact the LexisNexis Practice Management Sales department at 1-800-328-2898. nRequirements: To ensure your firm's system meets and/or exceeds the minimum set of requirements, see nPCLaw setup file: To download and run the PCLaw setup file, refer to the Download and Run the Installer topic for assistance. nSubsequent PCs: After the PCLaw Installation is complete, you will be asked if Installation for additional workstations/PCs is required. If so, follow the steps provided in the procedure for adding subsequent PCs.
5 NPCLaw initial setup: To complete the initial PCLaw setup, complete the steps provided in the Initializing PCLaw Data topic for instructions. nPCLaw Mobility: If PCLaw Mobility will be used by your firm, follow the steps provided in the Installing and Enabling PCLaw Mobility section of this additional assistance is required, please contact PCLaw Customer Support at PCLawInstallation& Pre- Installation ChecklistThis checklist is intended for use by PCLaw administrators who have reviewed the PCLaw Installation documentation and is preparing to install the software on one or more systems in their Pre- Installation Checklist Your firm has an active Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP) with a Product Key. The firm's PCLaw Host environment has been determined for the: 1. Operating System? 2. Database? 3. Mobile Devices? 4. Data storage location? The system meets the minimum/recommended set of requirements? The computer has a network drive mapped to the PCLaw Shared Components folder.
6 The PCLaw setup file has been downloaded? PCLaw Installation complete -- Yes. 1. Additional workstations installed with Data/Network access? 2. PCLaw initial setup complete? Will PCLaw Mobility be installed for the firm? 1. If Yes, complete the Install PCLaw Link as a Service procedure. 2. Enable PCLaw Mobility feature for the entire firm. 3. Enable PCLaw Mobility for each Mobility user within the firm. 4. Download and install the PCLaw Mobility Access Manager. Completed by: Date/Time: LexisNexis PCLawInstallation& and run the installerInstallation and update tasks are accomplished using the LexisNexis PCLaw Installer and Updater. It scans the workstation and is used to either install a new Installation of LexisNexis PCLaw or update an existing Installation . Access to the Installer is via your firm's Product Keys/Entitlement email and is used to download the latest version of the PCLaw application software for new releases, service packs, and/or hot the Installer can be run more than once, if it is stopped before completion, it must be restarted from the beginning.
7 Before you begin: Ensure you have the firm's Product Keys/Entitlement the installer 1. Click the 'download your software' link in your Product Key/entitlement Download your software link displays. 2. Click the link associated with the Download your software from the link below topic. The LexisNexis Delivery window opens. 3. Click the Download button. The Download PCLaw window opens. 4. Complete the pre- Installation prescribed PCLawInstallation& 5. Download and read the PCLaw End-User License Agreement. 6. Click the I have read and agree with the End-User License Agreement button to acknowledge agreement with the Terms and PCLaw application window opens. 7. Select the Install PCLaw PCLaw Install Options window PCLawInstallation& 8. Select the Install or Update PCLaw PCLaw Setup Wizard Welcome window to the New PCLaw Installation procedure for new installs, or see Update LexisNexis PCLaw for PCLaw application updates to PCLawInstallation& PCLaw installationAfter you have completed the PCLaw Pre- Installation Checklist and obtained the PCLaw setup file, perform the following steps to complete the PCLaw Installation :Before you begin: nEnsure that you have reviewed and/or completed the PCLaw Pre- Installation Checklist nObtained the PCLaw setup file nClose all programsInstall the PCLaw application 1.
8 In the Welcome window, review the License Agreement information. NoteYou must read to the bottom of the End User License Agreement, and ensure that the scroll bar is at the bottom as well, in order for the 'Next' button to become available. 2. Click the 'Next' button implies that you have read and agree with the End User License Installation Agreement window PCLawInstallation& 3. Check the check box to agree to the Installation Agreement. The 'Next' button becomes available. 4. Click Data Set Create/Attach window opens. 5. Select the Create a new data set option. 6. Click Next. The Enter Product Key window opens. LexisNexis PCLawInstallation& 7. Enter the Product Key obtained from the firm's entitlement Next button becomes available only after the Product Key is correctly entered. 8. Click Select Destination window opens. 9. Accept the defaults for the Installation location, or use the Browse button to change the PCLawInstallation& 10.
9 Click your PCLaw books to a shared network location where all PCLaw users will have both Read and Write Ready to Install window opens. 11. Click the Start button to begin the Installation Setup Wizard progress window displays. Please it finishes, the Additional Stations window opens. 12. Click PCLawInstallation& Initialize Data window opens. 13. Click Continue to start PCLaw and to initialize the data now. (Optional:) Click Later to initialize the data at a later PCLaw application opens with the Data Initialization window to Initialize PCLaw Data for the detailed procedure used to complete the data initialization PCLawInstallation& the PCLaw software on additional workstationsBefore you begin: nEnsure that you have installed the application on a network server that can be accessed by others nEnsure that each workstation has access to the shared folder/network server nClose all programs 1.
10 Browse to the PCLaw initial Installation PC location. The default is: C:\ PCLaw Data\COMMON\INSTALL. 2. Select the file. The Welcome window opens. 3. Review the License Agreement.
