10 Printed copies are UNCONTROLLED. 1 Introduction Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) comprises a range of clothing and equipment which is worn by the individual to protect or shield their bodies from workplace hazards. Employers shall, provide their employees with sufficient, fit for purpose personal protective clothing and equipment to protect them against workplace hazards, without any cost to the employees. In the Hierarchy of Controls (Elimination, Substitution, Isolation, Engineering, Administration and PPE), personal protective equipment is considered the least satisfactory method in the prevention of work-related injury or illness and is only to be used when other measures are not feasible or cannot be implemented immediately.
