Manual pressure seals the jacketingwithout the use of a torch or heater. 2 Since conditions vary, consult PittsburghCorning if in doubt about chemical APPLICATION: insulation should be secured to the pipe with 2pieces per section of fiberglass reinforced strappingtape overlapped at least 50%. Cut a length ofjacketing to provide at least a four-inch overlap at thelongitudinal seam. Slit the release paper at thisoverlap, taking care not to slit jacket. Strike ahorizontal line along the insulation convenient forstarting jacket positioning and to insure a uniform lapline. Remove release paper except at the and dust must be kept off jacketing . 3 An ordinary wallpaper seam roller hasbeen found to be particularly useful for applyingpressure to the overlap areas. Note: Cure occurs ina few hours after seal is madeWhen temperature is below 50 F (10 C), or ifsurfaces are dirty, apply a thin coat of PITTWRAP SS primer by brush to the bituminous surface in theoverlap area. If temperature is below 50 F (10 C)and surfaces are clean, the overlap may be warmedwith a heater or torch, taking care not to burn throughthe second and succeeding sections are applied inthe same matter. Succeeding sections are placed tooverlap the previous section of jacket a minimum of 2inches. Applya bead of PITTSEAL 444N sealant (FI-164) alongthe edge of the longitudinal joint the width of the buttstrip.

4 Remove the release paper from the end of thebutt strip and embed the end in the sealant. Smooththe butt strip into place working down and under thecover, then up and over, finally overlapping theembedded end. Press and roll the overlap to providea seal. After application, inspect all joints, smoothand repress any loose areas. Use primer or heat thesame as for applying the jacket, if OR CHANGES IN THICKNESS:With any jacketing or coating, any change ininsulation thickness, such as screwed ell covers, pipestep downs, etc., should be field-tapered to make asmooth transition. These transitions should betreated as a fitting, using PITTCOTE 300 finishmastic (FI-120) and PC Fabric 79 (FI-159) may be covered with jacketing cut in shapesto fit, or with PITTCOTE 300 finish and PC Fabric79. When mastic is used, the mastic must be lappedover the bituminous surface and not the polyethylenesurface. To do this, stop the last full section of jacket4" (10 cm) short of the change in thickness orbeginning of curvature.

5 Apply a 4" (10 cm) butt stripwith bituminous surface exposed; keeping thelongitudinal lap even with the last full section. Apply abutt strip in the normal fashion over the joint betweenthe last full section and the reversed butt strip. Thisleaves 2" (5 cm) of exposed bituminous PITTCOTE 300 finish and PC Fabric 79over the fitting, lapping onto the final butt strip. Incases of severe conditions, it may be desirable toreverse a larger width than 4" (10 cm).LIMITATIONS:The maximum allowable operating temperature forhot water lines when using this PRODUCT is 170 F(77 C)Do not use over combustible not use in areas where jacketing will be exposed tosolvents that can dissolve practical precautions when backfilling so not topuncture material is designed for application only forprofessional, trained personnel using proper equipmentand is not intended for sale to the general exceptionally hot weather, when large diameterpipeis involved, it may be necessary to provide additionaltemporary support for shop applied jacketing by thejudicious use of several wraps of fiber glass reinforcedstrapping tape over the jacketing and lapping itself at least50%.
