1 POWER Transmission and Distribution SAE POWER Lines srl 2 Milano, June 17, 1926. Company managers, lawyers and a notary met in Foro Bonaparte to set up a new electrification company: SAE (Societ Anonima Elettrificazione), to electrify the Bolzano-Brennero railway line. It was the first electrified line in Italy Despite the original agreement providing for the windup of the company once the project had been completed, SAE was awarded other projects and expanded its activities in Italy and abroad Italy: 230 kV Sluderno-Stelvio-Cesano Transmission Line, 220 km built in 1947 Tower near the Stelvio pass, altitude 2,800 m Mules carrying conductors on the mountains 3 Over 135,000 kilometers of experience in the POWER Transmission and Distribution field in Italy and all over the world.

A leadership lasting since 1926 is a reference of absolute distinction. The story of SAE begins in 1926, with the electrification of the double-track Bolzano- Brennero railway line in Italy. In the following years, the company extended its activities, particularly in the POWER Transmission field, acquiring the expertise enabling it to become a worldwide leader in this sector. SAE s mission, evidenced by 135,000 kilometers of lines built in Italy and abroad ( enough to go round the world more than three times), is to guarantee the POWER Transmission and Distribution with the best technical, economic and environmental parameters and with the utmost reliability.

1926 Establishment of SAE (Societa Anonima Elettrificazione) for the electrification of the Bolzano-Brennero railway line. 1938 Work begins in the POWER Transmission field: first POWER lines built in Italy. The factory for steel structures manufacturing is established in Lecco. 1947 First major project abroad: the 115 kV Alberg Transmission line in Austria. Construction of the Garabuso Testing Station, the first in Europe. 1950 The "overseas activity" begins: important contracts are acquired in India, Greece, Australia, Canada, and in many countries in Africa and South America.

1955 The line linking Continental Italy to Sicily isle over the Strait of Messina comes into operation: two crossing towers 225 m high were designed and installed. 1960 The Elba crossing in Germany. 1974 Construction of two parallel +-533 kV DC Transmission lines from Mozambique to South Africa covering a total length of about 3,000 kilometers. 1976 Construction of the first phase of the 400 kV Iraqi Supergrid. 1977 Construction in Iran of the 400 kV Transmission line at Karun in the Zagros mountains, at altitudes of 3,000 meters. 1987 The Pearl River crossing in China is constructed, using towers 240 m high (the tallest in the world at the time) manufactured by the SAE.

1988 SAE and SADELMI merge and following the acquisition by ABB group: ABB Sae Sadelmi is established. 1989 Construction in Italy of an experimental 1,050 kV Transmission line for ENEL (the national utility) and the Yellow River crossing in China. The first low environmental impact compact lines are supplied in Italy. 1994/97 Consolidation of the company's presence in the Middle and Far East, with the acquisition of major projects in Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Philippines and Malaysia. 2002 Construction in Mexico of the 400 kV double circuit Transmission lines Manuel Moreno Torrese in Chiapas region with the Ranita isle crossing (1631 + 1408 m spans).

2003 Construction in Thailand of the Greater Bangkok Ring, 500 kV double circuit lines. 2005 ABB decides to exit the powerlines business. The Italian unit is sold to a financial group under the name of SAE POWER Lines. 2008 ATSL India (a company of the Gammon group) acquires the full control of SAE POWER Lines. Assembling the 132 kV Transmission line with the aid of helicopters on the mountains of north Italy. 4 Our technological resources combined with our people's exceptional expertise and experience enable us to deal with all kinds of OHTL projects. Implementation capabilities. In Italy, the company has given a substantial contribution to the country's energy Transmission development, building many 380 kV Transmission lines for ENEL, as well as introducing innovative solutions such as the experimental 1,050 kV Transmission line in Toscana and the compact 132 kV Transmission lines with a low environmental impact.

Overseas, working with utilities in various countries, the company built lines ranging from 11 to 800 kV and has acquired a wide experience in dealing with extra-HV lines ranging from 380, 400, 500 kV, up to the 765 kV lines built in South Africa. EHV Direct Current lines where built since 1976 starting from the 1,400 km Cahora Bassa (Mozambique) at 533 kV, up to the Greece-Italy interconnection 110 km at 400 kV completed in 2002. A complete POWER Transmission system. SAE is capable of supplying a complete POWER Transmission system and the relevant Distribution networks.

In addition to the primary HV/EHV overhead Transmission lines which are the core business of the company, SAE also designs and builds Nigeria: NAOC 330 kV dc Transmission line. Near to the Niger river crossing. Italy: the experimental Transmission line 1,050 kV Suvereto-Casal Valdicciola 5 . complete HV/MV substations AIS (Air Insulated Switchgear), including Protection, Control and Signaling Panels (PCM) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS). The role of SAE. With over 80 years of experience, SAE acts as General Contractor, taking the leading role in consortia and joint ventures, especially for turnkey EPC projects, developing and managing all activities, from the feasibility studies to the commissioning of the plant.

A flexible structure, always adaptable to the customer needs. The establishment of local branches all over the world enables SAE to use a flexible organization, capable of utilizing and managing local resources and tailoring the product to the customer needs. This approach allows to operate in different countries respecting the local culture, people and environment From the feasibility study to the commissioning, here's what we are able to do. SAE often has to deal with problems of considerable complexity of technical, management and environmental nature. As an example, a particular project that the company had to cope with, was the 230 kV dc Transmission line crossing the Strait of Gheshm in Iran, the only case in the world of a crossing tower with a prefabricated offshore foundation placed in the sea having the size of a civil building (30 x 30 x 21 m) and weighing 6,000 ton.
