1 Dear Cheerleading Candidate, Hello and thank you for showing interest in the walnut Hills high school Cheerleading Squad. We are very excited about the opportunity to meet all of you and share our enthusiasm for the sport of cheerleading. It is very important that you and your parent/guardian read and complete all material in this packet and bring completed forms with you to the one-day tryout on May 18th from 4pm to 7pm. Please note if all items are not received on tryout day the candidate will NOT be able to participate. This tryout is to in hopes add a few more cheerleaders to our current 2016-17.

2 Freshmen Cheerleading Squad. Candidates will be taught all the material during the tryouts and will be evaluated at the end, and emails will be sent out to those who make the team later that evening. There will be a MANDATORY fitting for uniforms/spirit wear on Thursday May 19th at 6:00 pm, followed a parent and cheerleading meeting to go over the program. Cheerleading is a very demanding sport that requires commitment on the field during the game, and off the field amongst peers, family, and friends. As a walnut Hills Cheerleader you will be required to show excellent sportsmanship, eagle pride, and always excel academically.

3 Students must have a minimum of a in order to be eligible for tryouts and participate in cheer. Once making the team students must stay eligible by passing 5. classes in the immediately preceding grading period. This means that a student must get a D or better in 5 classes, and PE counts toward those 5 classes. Immediately preceding grading period means the most recently completed quarter Good Luck!! 4 Please bring all forms with a blue star in the lower right hand corner completely filled out along with your sports physical to tryouts. Cheerleading application Copy of report card with current grades Cheerleader Responsibilities Parent Responsibilities Cheerleader and Parent Commitment (signed by both parties). Medical Information Sheet OHSAA physical must be received by clinic date in order to tryout. Form can be found on walnut Hills Website (please check with the athletic office to ensure if you have one on file from another sport). 1 Teacher Recommendation due at tryouts 2.

5 Try Out information 2016-2017. RESULTS ARE FINAL!!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS. Cheerleading season consists of two seasons (Basketball and Football). Competition is optional and will be separate. Tryouts are CLOSED. NO EXCEPTION. Only coaches, and current senior cheerleaders teaching material. NO GUM, FOOD OR SODA/POP ONLY WATER AND OR. GATORADE/POWERADE. Phones are to be turned OFF before coming into the gym and are NOT. allowed to be used during clinics or tryouts. Video at the end may be used to record material. NO jewelry of any kind allowed (NO STUD EARRINGS, RINGS, NECKLACES ETC.).

6 If you earn a position on one of the cheer squads, you are expected to accept the position, changes will not be made. If you do not take the position you will not be able to tryout the following year. All former Eagle cheerleaders must tryout and are expected to do the same as the other applicants. No one has a guaranteed spot. Each candidate will be assigned a number for judging purposes and will be split in groups randomly. 3. Try Out information 2016-2017. What to wear? NO EAGLE CHEER APPAREL ALLOWED. Clinic: Cheer/tennis shoes, shorts, t-shirt, hair in pony tail off shoulders.

7 Make-up should be natural. Bows are optional. Candidates will be asked to leave if they are not wearing proper attire. How will I be Scored? Scores will be computed for candidates based upon the following areas: Academics: Teacher Evaluations and Grades Clinic Material: Chants, Cheer, Dance, Jumps Confidence/Enthusiasm, Motions, Rhythm, Voice, Tumbling (Required: Cartwheel, and Round-off). THERE ARE NO MAKE-UP TRYOUTS unless arrangements have been made with coaches prior to tryouts. If you are a multi-sport athlete, you must contact a coach to work out a schedule that will work best for everyone.

8 The judging panel will consist of current coaches and guest judges who have several different levels of coaching and cheer experience. COACHES. WILL HAVE FINAL DECISION OF TEAMS. PLACEMENTS OF. TEAMS ARE FINAL AND WILL NOT BE CHANGED. Important Dates: Skating Fundraiser: Friday May 20th Fun Factory 5:00 to 7:30 Conditioning: May 10,12,17,19,31 June 2 & 3. Summer Practices Begin: June 7th (Tues, Thurs, Fri 5pm to 7pm). Vacation break will be July 22nd August 7th Cheer Zumba Fundraiser: June 18th Time TBA. Summer UCA Camp: Great Wolf Lodge Cinti. Location July 11th 14th. Jr. high Summer Camp: July 18th 20th 8am to 2pm (Seniors Only).

9 Kiddie Camp: July 18th 21st 4:00 7:00 4. Try Out information 2016-2017. Squad Makeup FRESHMEN: 9TH gr. JUNIOR VARSITY: 9th-11th gr. VARSITY: 10th-12th gr IMPORTANT: The coaches reserve the right to NOT take the maximum number for each squad as well as have an open tryout for transfer students at any time. Football Squads will consist of no more than 14 cheerleaders. Freshmen and Junior Varsity will have opportunities to cheer with Varsity at the first home game, and homecoming night. Please note Frosh & JV may be invited to cheer at additional Varsity home games. Basketball Freshmen Squad will only cheer at home and Saturday games Due to OHSAA regulations, only 8 cheerleaders are allowed on the court at a time.

10 Coaches will make a rotating schedule for games. Before the season begins any excused schedule conflicts must be submitted to coaches (date will be given later). AFTER the schedule is sent, it will be their responsibility to find a replacement, or will be unexcused. Competition team has been selected During tryouts, coaches will observe candidates as well as scores and chose our competition squad. The competition squad will compete in Cheer for a Cure, ECC competition and at least one other competition during the season. Tumbling is not required but will be highly considered. Tumbling Classes are MANDATORY .
