2 The Chief Executive andSecretary exercises all powers of the Council relatedto the administration of the examinations inaccordance with the provisions of the Regulationsand of other rules and procedures approved by theCouncil from time to time and for the time being The Council conducts the INDIAN CERTIFICATE ofSecondary education , the INDIAN School Certificateand the CERTIFICATE of Vocational is a Committee on Examinations and Subject0 Committees for drawing up and revisingsyllabuses. The Council has its own teams of trainedexaminers, specialists and CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARYEDUCATION EXAMINATIONCHAPTER 1A. CERTIFICATE of SecondaryEducation Examinationhas been designed toprovide an examination in a course of generaleducation, in accordance with therecommendations of the education Policy 1986,through the medium of INDIAN CERTIFICATE of SECONDARY EducationExamination will ensure a general educationand all candidates are required toenterforsixormoresubjects (as detailed on pages 3 and 4) andSocially Useful Productive INDIAN CERTIFICATE of SECONDARY EducationExamination is a school examination and thestandard of the examination presupposes aschool course of ten years duration(ClassesI-X).

3 Candidates are not permitted to appearfor the YearSchools affiliated to the Councilarerequired tobegin the academic year between the middle ofMarch and the first week of June, each Conditions of to the examination , in the case ofcandidates who are being entered for the firsttime,is restricted tocandidates with aminimum of 75% attendance of the workingdays during each year of the two year courseat schools affiliated to the Council andregistered for the INDIAN CERTIFICATE ofSecondary education examination . 5 However, the Chief Executiveand Secretary has the authority to condone theshortage of attendance in the caseof candidateswhose minimum attendance is not less than 60% ofthe working days in each year of the two yearcourse. Heads of Schoolsmay represent, to the Chief Executive andSecretary, cases of candidates who deserve specialconsideration for condoningshortage of attendancein Class IX and / or X, provided that the attendanceof such candidates is not less than 60% of theworking days, during each year of the two ,the Chief Executive and Secretary maycondone the shortage of attendance in the case ofcandidates whose minimum attendance is below60% in exceptional cases :(i)on Psychological / Medical Grounds such asserious illnesses requiringalong period oftreatment/hospitalisation(ii)authorise d participation in sports at StateorNational Level organised by recognised SportsAuthorities(iii)Other unforeseen and Chief Executive and Secretary wouldsubsequently report the matter to the ExecutiveCommittee of the last date for computing attendance at school isFebruary 15, of each of the two Withdrawal of CandidatesCandidates may be withdrawnonline onlyat anytime prior to the commencement of theexamination, provided that, once the entries havebeen acknowledged as accepted by the Council's3office, Heads of Schools may only withdrawcandidates.

7 (i)If anyof the REGULATIONS made for theconduct of the examination is not adhered to,the candidate or candidates concerned maybe disqualified.(ii)In no case the Heads of affiliated schoolsshall detaineligiblecandidates who meet thepass criteria andhave therequired attendancefrom appearing at the ICSE examination .(iii)No affiliated school shall endeavour topresent candidateswho are not onits roll norwill it present the candidates of itsunaffiliated branch/school to any of theCouncil s examinations.(iv)If the Council has reasons to believe that anaffiliated school is not following theRegulations mentioned above, the Councilshalltake necessary action as per Rules IIIMPORTANT NOTE:The responsibility for thecorrect selection of subjects to meet universityrequirements of a candidate or candidates will bethat of the Head of the of examination :Part I: CompulsoryInternal examination or Internal AssessmentCandidates for the examination are required to havecompleted satisfactorily, courses in (a)A third language from at least Class V to Class VIII(Internal examination ).

For admission to the XII course, allcombinations of subjects will be following subject combinations are not permittedfor the ICSE examination :-Sanskrit as a Second Language (Group I)andSanskrit as a Classical Language (Group II).-Economics (Group II) and Economic Applications(Group III).-Commercial Studies (Group II) and CommercialApplications (Group III).-Environmental Science (Group II) andEnvironmental Applications (Group III).-Under Modern Foreign Language: Candidates opting for a Modern ForeignLanguage as a Second Language in Group I,may not opt for the same language underModern Foreign Languages in Group II andGroup III. Candidates opting for a Modern ForeignLanguage inGroup II may not opt for the sameLanguage as a Group I and Group III subject.

10 Candidates opting for a Modern ForeignLanguage in Group III may not opt for thesame Language as a Group I and Group examination (i)It will be the responsibility of the Head of theschool to ensure promotion from ClassIX toClassXwill be done on the basis ofthecumulativeachievement level of the student throughout theacademicyear in the subjects he/she has beenregistered for. For promotions, a candidate isrequired to have obtained at least 35% marks infive subjects including English on the cumulativeaverageand a minimum attendance of 75% of theworking other criteria will be used forpromotion from Class IXto Class IX to Class X on Trial basis;on Re- examination or AwardingofGrace markswill not be accepted by the CERTIFICATE should not be issuedwith Promoted to Class X if the student has not met therequired promotion criteria(ii)Socially Useful Productive Work and CommunityService (Compulsory)The assessment in Socially Useful ProductiveWork and Community Service will be made bythe school and the result will count towards theaward of the CERTIFICATE .
