By 2008, chrysotile was the only type of asbestos used in the United States (Virta 2008); 64% of chrysotile used was categorized as grade 7 asbestos (with fiber lengths less than 3 mm), followed by grades 4, 5, and 3 (Virta 2002a, 2009).
