2 AtSacramento State, the History major includes four lower division surveycourses and three upper division seminars. In addition, students chooseseven upper division electives from a wide variety available. The flexibilityof the major allows students to focus on topical areas such as: women'shistory, the history of particular geographic areas, cultural history, ethnicgroup history, economic history, military history, and history from theancient world to that of the in the 20th Century. Teaching credentialcandidates should complete the History/Social Science Sacramento State History Department has an extensive master'sprogram, offering degrees through the Standard Program, and the PublicHistory Option.

4 The Capitol Campus History Resources Institute, Hellenic StudiesCenter, North Central Information Center, and the Center for Science,History, Policy, and Ethics are associated with the Department. The california State Library, california State Archives, the SacramentoDiscovery Museum, and the california State railroad Museum providea rich supply of materials for historical research. Sacramento Statehistory students may use materials from these and other off-campussources in their work. Internships are available in a variety of public agencies and in someprivate enterprises. They are open to majors and other studentswith some history or related background.

5 In the past, studentshave interned in a variety of california state agencies and in theSacramento Discovery Museum. The Department office has adescriptive brochure on internships that students are encouraged toconsult. The undergraduate major in History at Sacramento State is designedto provide cultural enrichment and a sense of alternatives andperspectives, especially relevant in a society confronted withwidespread institutional change. In addition to subject matter, theDepartment gives particular emphasis to various methodologies andways of thinking about the past. A minor in History can provide valuable support to majors in manyother programs, such as Business Administration, Journalism, andCriminal Justice.

6 History courses also make excellent electives, contributing interestand variety to an academic program. Neither lower division nor upperdivision history courses are designed only for history majors orminors.
