1 SYLLABUS FOR SPANISH 1 Text: Realidades (Prentice Hall) I will attempt to cover the Preliminary chapters (Para Empezar) and through Chapter 4B by the end of the year. This is four out of nine chapters in the textbook. Daily class activities will include conversation, written and oral practice of grammar concepts and opportunities for creating original work in the SPANISH language. Testing will include written and oral quizzes and tests. Homework is used as an Insurance Policy. If a student is on the borderline of a grade, he/she will be pulled up to higher grade if the homework record is good, otherwise the lower grade applies. I use the Augusta County Grading Scale.
2 Almost all my grades have equal value, so that no one grade can ruin a student s grade point average for a six weeks grading period. The exceptions to this are the first and second semester examinations, which have specific valuation placed on them by the County. I teach only one class at Stuarts Draft Middle School, and am available for a personal or telephone conference after the class, from 9:20-10:00. My e-mail is The students receive a packet of classroom expectations and a classroom statement on the first day of class to be signed by parents and students.
3 Students are aware of the consequences of not following these expectations. A grade point average of a B+, or better is expected by the end of the year if the student hopes to be successful in SPANISH 2.
