1 THE MAN BEHIND . THE NAME. Named in honour of the building's original architect, Frederick Romberg (1913-1992), Romberg's pays homage to one of Australia's finest architects. Born in China and the child of German parents, Swiss trained Romberg migrated to Australia in 1938. In addition to becoming an award winning, leading figure in the development of Modernism, Romberg was also the foundation Professor of Architecture at the University of Newcastle.
