Each key has an embedded LED (red light) that blinks upon selection and indicatesthat the remote control is working and is sending INFO to display the current channel and program PAGE+to page up throughmenu screens and program BACK once to show the previous page while using theinteractive the Cursorkeys to move thecursor in the program Guide andmenu screens and to navigatewithin the interactive SELECTto choose options, PPVevents, and to tune programs fromthe program Guide to display the PAGE-to page down through menu screens and program EXIT to exit out of your cableconverter s menu and A,B,or Cto access additionalcable features (see your cableconverter s manual).

Match the + and marks on the batter-ies to the + and marks in the battery case,then insert the new the cover s keys with the case s holes andpress the cover back into place. The tab shouldclick when the cover is the unit by pressing POWER and any mode key ( ,AUX,VCR,TV,or CABLE). If thebatteries are inserted correctly, the selectedmode key will blink : Whenever batteries need replacement, the remote controlwill cease to operate. Simply replace the batteries and the remotecontrol will be restored to its full functionality, complete with yourfavorite Cox Manual 11/27/01 7:14 PM Page 7 PROGRAMMING DEVICE CONTROLThe Cox Universal remote control is preprogrammed tooperate your cable converter, an RCA TV, an RCA VCR,and a Pioneer audio receiver.

6 To control devices otherthan the default brands, perform the following steps; oth-erwise skip this section:NOTES: To control a DVD player, program the VCRor AUXkey. Tocontrol a PVR, program the VCRkey. To control a stereo amplifieror receiver, program the AUXkey. For TV/VCR Combo control , skipthis section and perform the instructions on the next you have another brand of cable converter and interactive ser-vice you would like to control , you ll first need to unlock the cableID Lock before changing the converter code see ProgrammingID Lock on page on a device and, if applicable, insert videomedia, ( , cassette or disc).NOTE: Please read steps 2-4 completely before pro-ceeding. Highlight or write down the codes and deviceyou wish to program before moving on to step the remote control , press a device key once( ,AUX,VCR,TV,or CABLE). Press and hold SETUP until the selected mode key blinkstwice, then release the Manufacturer s Codes(starting onpage 11) to locate the the type of device andbrand name and then enter the first four-digitcode for your device.

7 If performed correctly, theselected mode key will blink : If the selected mode key emits a long blink, thecode is invalid. Repeat steps 2 through 3 and tryentering the same code the remote control at the device and pressPOWER once. The device should turn off. If itdoes not, repeat steps 2-3, trying each code foryour brand until you find one that works. If itstill does not work, try searching for the code(see Searching For Your Codeon page 20).NOTE: If the device does not have a POWERkey, pressthe (Play) steps 1 through 4 for each device youwant the the remote control to control . Forfuture reference, write down each workingdevice code in the following boxes:8 Cox Manual 11/27/01 7:14 PM Page 8 AUXAUX Device _____VCRTVCABLEPROGRAMMING TV/VCR COMBO CONTROLIf you own a TV/VCR Combo, perform the followinginstructions to control this on your TV/VCR Combo and insert avideo the remote control , press VCR and hold SETUP until the VCR key blinks twice, then release the Setup Codes For TV/VCR Combos(onpage 17) to locate the brand name and thenenter the first four-digit code for your TV/VCRC ombo.

8 If you perform this procedure correctly,the VCR key will blink : If the VCRkey did not blink twice after enter-ing the code s last digit, then repeat steps 2 through 3and try entering the same code the remote control at your TV/VCRC ombo and press POWER once. The deviceshould turn off. If it does not respond, repeatsteps 2-3, trying each code listed for your branduntil you find one that works.
