The Hard Disk Format Tool (hereinafter called "this software") is the software for Windows which enables to reset the handydrive partitions (*) and the format (*) to the factory default setting, to split into multiple partitions or to delete the partitions. [Caution] The data inside the hard disk will be lost if any alteration, deletion or formatting of the partition is executed. Please take extra care when using this software. Refer to "[3] Precautions and Limitations" for other cautions and limitations. Refer to "[4] Trouble Shooting" for the technical terms of * (asterisk) marks. Operating Environments This software operates under the environments described below. << Supported OS >> - Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM) Ultimate - Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM) Enterprise - Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM) Business - Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM) Home Premium - Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM) Home Basic - Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition - Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional - Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 Professional - Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Millennium Edition - Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98 Second Edition [Caution] This software is 32 bits application.

3 As for this software the operation in 64 bits OS is not guaranteed. << Supported Device >> Fujitsu handydrive Note: * In case of using Windows 98 SE PC This software requires the handydrive which supports Windows 98SE. (The some models are not supported Windows 98SE.) * In case of using Windows Me PC This software requires the handydrive which supports Windows Me. (The some models are not supported Windows Me.) Hard Disk Format Tool User's Guide ( 3 / 35 ) Installation and Uninstallation - Installation [Caution] When the OS is upgraded with the Hard Disk Format Tool, the operation of the Hard Disk Format Tool is not guaranteed. Please uninstall the Hard Disk Format Tool before upgrading the OS, and re-install latest Version of the Hard Disk Format Tool after upgrading the OS. Please uninstall old Version of the Hard Disk Format Tool before installing latest Version of the Hard Disk Format Tool. Refer to "Uninstallation" in this chapter.

4 Install this package following the procedure below. (1) Log on with the administrator's account if you use Windows Vista, Windows XP or Windows 2000 Professional. (2) Double-click to start installation. * In Windows Vista, when the user Account Control is valid When the window below is displayed, click the [Allow]. (4) Click [Next >] when the computer is ready for installation and the "Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for handydrive Format Tool " dialog box is displayed. (5) Installation starts and the window of "Installing handydrive Format Tool " is displayed. (7) Installation is now complete. - Uninstallation Uninstall the Hard Disk Format Tool following the procedure below.

5 (1) Log on with the administrator's account if you use Windows Vista, Windows XP or Windows 2000 Professional. (2) Open [My Computer] and click [Control Panel]. ([Control Panel] can also be opened through [Start] - [Settings] - [Control Panel].) (2) Click the [Start] menu of [Task Bar]. (3) Click the [All Programs] menu in case of Windows XP/Vista and [Programs] in case of Windows98SE/Me/2000. (4) Click the [ Fujitsu handydrive ] menu. (5) Click the [Hard Disk Format Tool ] menu. (6) Click [Format Tool]. * In Windows Vista, when the user Account Control is valid When the window below is displayed, click the [Allow]. 7 (8) The software starts after displaying the start-up screen below. [Caution] - In case there is no handydrive connected or there are two or more units connected, the window below is displayed. In this case, click [OK] and restart this software after connecting only one handydrive . Hard Disk Format Tool User's Guide ( 11 / 35 ) - The window below is displayed when logging on with other than the administrator's account if you use Windows XP or Windows 2000 Professional. In this case, click [OK] and restart this software after logging on with the administrator's account. - In Windows Vista, when you logs on with other than the administrator's account, the window below is displayed. * When the user Account Control is valid In this case, type an administrator's password, and then click [OK], and this software is started. If you don't know the password, click [Cancel].

8 And restart this software after you logs on again with the administrator's account. Hard Disk Format Tool User's Guide ( 12 / 35 ) * When the user Account Control is invalid In this case, click [OK]. And restart this software after you logs on again with the administrator's account. Hard Disk Format Tool User's Guide ( 13 / 35 ) Explanation of the Main Screen The main screen as shown below is displayed when you start the software. (1) [Connected handydrive ] and [Maximum Capacity] The name of the connected handydrive and its maximum capacity are displayed. (2) [Partition] The current partition configuration is displayed. (3) [Details] The detailed information of the selected partition (indicated by the Blue box at (2)) is displayed. (4) [Operation] The executable operations of the selected partition (indicated by the Blue box at (2)) are displayed.

9 (5) [Help] The explanation is displayed accordingly where cursor is placed. (6) [Operation Menu] Various operations are executed to the selected partition (indicated by the Blue box at (2)). (The button of the operation which cannot be executed is disabled.) - Refer to chapter for detailed explanation of [Reset to the factory default setting]. - Refer to chapter for detailed explanation of [Delete the partition]. - Refer to chapter for detailed explanation of [Logical format (FAT32)]. (7) [Close] This software is closed. Refer to chapter for detailed explanation of [Close]. Hard Disk Format Tool User's Guide ( 14 / 35 ) * In case partition information is not available The window below is displayed at the start-up if there is no partition information. The partition information is initialized when [Yes] is clicked and the partition of the main screen is displayed as shown below.

10 Then execute [Reset to the factory default setting] or [Logical format (FAT32)]. The partition of the main screen is displayed as shown below when [No] is clicked and only [Reset to the factory default setting] becomes executable. * When the partition is managed by Mac OS The window as shown below is displayed at the start-up if the partition is managed by Mac OS. The partition of the main screen is displayed as shown below when [OK] is clicked and only [Reset to the factory default setting] becomes executable. Hard Disk Format Tool User's Guide ( 15 / 35 ) [Reset to the factory default setting] All the partitions in the handydrive are deleted and reset to the partition configuration that is equivalent to factory default setting. [Caution] - All the data inside the handydrive is deleted when this operation is executed. It is recommended to backup all the data before executing this operation.
