Catalase negative bacteria: Streptococcus spp b. Coagulase test Purpose The coagulase test differentiates strains of Staphylococcus aureus from other coagulase-negative species. S. aureus strains are capable of coagulating plasma in the tube test and will produce clumps of cells in the slide test.
