Since the inception of Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI) protection into the NEC, it has continued expan-sion to additional branch circuits. The purpose of GFCI is for the protection of personnel from electrical shock. A GFCI is defined by the NEC as follows: Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI).
