Uses and Properties For all metal surfaces, iron, steel, galvanized iron, aluminium, magnesium, light alloys, zinc, tin, cadmium, copper, etc. To provide a hard, flat anti-corrosive film Primer which will serve as an excellent bond for subsequent coatings, such as primers, undercoats or finishing coats. The film has excellent adhesion to most metal surfaces. AMERETCH 783 can be sanded after four hours drying and is also suitable for use as a Universal Primer over aged primers and topcoats. It is suitable for overcoating with a wide range of Single and two pack products. Typical Applications Light industrial components and light fabrications metal items. As a Universal Primer under air dry enamels, baking enamels and two pack products such as epoxy or polyurethane enamels.

Ensure surface is completely dry. 1st Coat: AMERETCH 783 2nd Coat: QD600 SPRAYING ENAMEL 20-25 40-50 Mild Steel - exterior Remove rust, clean and degrease. Ensure surface is completely dry. 1st Coat: AMERETCH 783 2nd Coat: FAST CURE EPOXY Primer 940- 3rd Coat: AMERCOAT 450K 20-25 40-50 40-50 Mild steel, zinc coated steels and Aluminium. Interior Exposure Remove rust, clean and degrease. Ensure surface is completely dry. 1st Coat: AMERETCH 783 2nd Coat: AMERCOAT 450K 20-25 40-50 Galvanised and zinc coated steel, aluminium and most non ferrous metals - exterior Degrease, abrade and clean. 1st Coat: AMERETCH 783 2nd Coat: AMERCOAT 185K 3rd Coat: QD600 SPRAYING ENAMEL 20-25 40-50 40-50 Other primers such as EASIPRIME 101, RUSTFIGHTER 215, may be suitable.

3 Other top coats such as STYRALUX 220 enamel may be suitable. Other two pack epoxy coatings such as AMERCOAT 370 may be used. Other two pack top coats such as LUSTERTHANE 988, ISO-FREE 977 and AMERCOAT 72K may be used. Single pack High Build Etching Universal Primer General Data Weathering Requires top coating. Finish Low sheen. Chemical Resistance Must be overcoated. Solvent Resistance Not recommended. Abrasion Resistance Fair. Immersed Conditions Not recommended. Temperature Range Up to 65 C dry heat, 125 oC for short periods. Colour Standard colour Buff. Limited range available. Topcoating Depending on service requirements. May be overcoated with a variety of Single pack and two pack systems. Shelf Life 12 months from date of shipment if stored indoors at 4 C to 38 C. Application Data Theoretical Coverage Approximately per litre to give a dry film thickness of approximately 25 mm.

4 Material losses during mixing and application will vary and must be considered when estimating requirements. Volume Solids 22% (theoretical). A 16 hr or overnight cure required for 2 pack products.) Maximum overcoat time 4 hr 8 hr 16 hr (If maximum overcoat time is exceeded then remove by blasting or sanding and reapply.) Drying times are dependent on temperature, ventilation, relative humidity, coating thickness etc. NOTE: The figures quoted for drying/curing times are not definitive. They are dependent on site conditions, ambient and steel temperatures, weather and ventilation. Thinners THINNER 265. Thin up to 50% as required.

5 Application Conventional Spray: Thin up to 30%. Apply at an air atomising pressure 350-400 kPa. Care should be taken to protect the primed surface from moisture and rain before it is topcoated. Do not apply when surface temperature is less than 3 C below the dew point or relative humidity is above 85%. Safety Precautions When applying by brush or roller, provide adequate ventilation. When applying by spray, users must comply with relevant spray painting regulations and wear appropriate respirator to avoid inhaling vapours and spray mist.
