Positional Asphyxiation. Positional asphyxiation is insufficient intake of oxygen as a result of body position that interferes with the subject’s ability to breathe. It can occur during the process of subduing and restraining a person by placing the person in a posture that prevents or impedes the mechanism of normal breathing.
