1 CHAPTER 17 STRUCTURAL TESTS AND SPECIAL INSPECTIONSSECTION provisions of this CHAPTER shall govern thequality, workmanship and requirements for materials of construction and TESTS shall conform to the appli-cable standards listed in this New building materials, equipment,appliances, systems or methods of construction not provided forin this code, and any material of questioned suitability proposedfor use in the construction of a building or structure, shall be sub-jected to the TESTS prescribed in this CHAPTER and in theapprovedrules to determine character, quality and limitations of Used use of second-hand materials thatmeet the minimum requirements of this code for new materialsshall be following words and terms shall, for thepurposes of this CHAPTER and as used elsewhere in this code,have the meanings shown established and recognizedagency regularly engaged in conducting TESTS or furnishinginspection services.

4 INTUMESCENT FIRE-RESISTANT liquid mixture applied to substrates by brush, roller, sprayor trowel which expands into a protective foamed layer to pro-vide fire-resistant protection of the substrates when exposed toflame or intense WINDFORCE-RESISTING assem-blage of STRUCTURAL elements assigned to provide support andstability for the overall structure. 8 Shall be provided for thebuilding officialtodetermine that the material meets the applicable code Research and technicaldata shall be submitted to thebuilding officialto substantiatethe proposed use of any material or assembly. If it is deter-mined that the evidence submitted is satisfactory proof of per-formance for the use intended, thebuilding officialshallapprove the use of the material or assembly subject to therequirements of this code. The costs, reports and investigationsrequired under these provisions shall be paid by the Research data, where neces-sary to assist in the approval of materials or assemblies notspecifically provided for in this code, shall consist of validresearch reports materials or assemblies are requiredby this code to belabeled, such materials and assemblies shallbelabeledby anapproved agencyin accordance with Section1703.

9 Products and materials required to be labeled shall belabeled in accordance with the procedures set forth in through agencyshall test a represen-tative sample of the product or material beinglabeledto therelevant standard or standards. Theapproved agencyshallmaintain a record of the TESTS performed. The record shallprovide sufficient detail to verify compliance with the inspection and periodically perform an inspection , which shallbe in-plant if necessary, of the product or material that is to belabeled.
