The Provisions of this chapter shall govern theoccupancy and maintenance of all structures and premises forprecautions against fire and the spread of fire and generalrequirements of fire Permits. Permits shall be required as set forth in Sec-tion for the activities or uses regulated by Sections 306,307, 308 and Definitions. The following terms are defined in Chap-ter 2:BONFIRE. HI-BOY. HIGH-VOLTAGE TRANSMISSION LINE. OPEN BURNING. PORTABLE OUTDOOR FIREPLACE.

2 POWERED INDUSTRIAL TRUCK. RECREATIONAL FIRE. SECTION 303 ASPHALT Transporting. Asphalt (tar) kettles shall not be trans-ported over any highway, road or street when the heat sourcefor the kettle is : Asphalt (tar) kettles in the process of patchingroad Location. Asphalt (tar) kettles shall not be locatedwithin 20 feet (6096 mm) of any combustible material, com-bustible building surface or any building opening and withina controlled area identified by the use of traffic cones, barri-ers or other approved means. Asphalt (tar) kettles and potsshall not be utilized inside or on the roof of a building orstructure.

3 Roofing kettles and operating asphalt (tar) kettlesshall not block means of egress, gates, roadways or Location of fuel containers. Fuel containers shall belocated at least 10 feet (3048 mm) from the : Containers properly insulated from heat orflame are allowed to be within 2 feet (610 mm) of Attendant. An operating kettle shall be attended by aminimum of one employee knowledgeable of the operationsand hazards. The employee shall be within 100 feet (30 480mm) of the kettle and have the kettle within sight. Ladders orsimilar obstacles shall not form a part of the route betweenthe attendant and the Fire extinguishers.

4 There shall be a portable fire extin-guisher complying with Section 906 and with a minimum 40-B:C rating within 25 feet (7620 mm) of each asphalt (tar) ket-tle during the period such kettle is being utilized. Addition-ally, there shall be one portable fire extinguisher with aminimum 3-A:40-B:C rating on the roof being Lids. Asphalt (tar) kettles shall be equipped with tight-fitting Hi-boys. Hi-boys shall be constructed of noncombusti-ble materials. Hi-boys shall be limited to a capacity of 55 gal-lons (208 L). Fuel sources or heating elements shall not beallowed as part of a Roofing kettles.

5 Roofing kettles shall be constructedof noncombustible Fuel containers under air pressure. Fuel containersthat operate under air pressure shall not exceed 20 gallons (76L) in capacity and shall be 304 COMBUSTIBLE WASTE Waste accumulation prohibited. Combustible wastematerial creating a fire hazard shall not be allowed to accu-mulate in buildings or structures or upon Waste material. Accumulations of wastepaper,wood, hay, straw, weeds, litter or combustible or flamma-ble waste or rubbish of any type shall not be permitted toremain on a roof or in any court, yard, vacant lot, alley,parking lot, open space, or beneath a grandstand, bleacher,pier, wharf or other similar Vegetation.

7 Vegetation clearance requirements inurban-wildland interface areas shall be in accordance withthe International Wildland-Urban Interface Space underneath seats. Spaces underneathgrandstand and bleacher seats shall be kept free from com-bustible and flammable materials. Except where enclosedin not less than 1-hour fire-resistance-rated construction inaccordance with the International Building Code, spacesunderneath grandstand and bleacher seats shall not beoccupied or utilized for purposes other than means Storage. Storage of combustible rubbish shall not pro-duce conditions that will create a nuisance or a hazard to thepublic health, Safety or Containers.

8 Combustible rubbish, and waste materialkept within or near a structure shall be stored in accordancewith Sections through Spontaneous ignition. Materials susceptible tospontaneous ignition, such as oily rags, shall be stored in alisted disposal container. Contents of such containers shallbe removed and disposed of Capacity exceeding cubic feet. Containerswith a capacity exceeding cubic feet (40 gallons)( m3) shall be provided with lids. Containers and lidsshall be constructed of noncombustible materials or ofcombustible materials with a peak rate of heat release notexceeding 300 kW/m2 when tested in accordance withASTM E 1354 at an incident heat flux of 50 kW/m2 in thehorizontal :1.

9 Wastebaskets complying with Section Dumpsters or containers in areas as approved bythe authority having jurisdiction shall be pro-tected by an approved automatic sprinkler systeminstalled throughout in accordance with , or Storage in a structure shall not be prohibitedwhere the structure is of Type I or IIA construc-tion, located not less than 10 feet (3048 mm)from other buildings and used exclusively fordumpster or container Capacity exceeding cubic yards. Dumpstersand containers with an individual capacity of cubicyards [ cubic feet ( m3)] or more shall not bestored in buildings or placed within 5 feet (1524 mm) ofcombustible walls, openings or combustible roof :1.

10 Dumpsters or containers in areas protected by anapproved automatic sprinkler system installedthroughout in accordance with Section , or Storage in a structure shall not be prohibitedwhere the structure is of Type I or IIA construc-tion, located not less than 10 feet (3048 mm)from other buildings and used exclusively fordumpster or container Capacity of 1 cubic yard or more. Dumpsterswith an individual capacity of cubic yard [200 gallons( m3)] or more shall not be stored in buildings orplaced within 5 feet (1524 mm) of combustible walls,openings or combustible roof eave lines unless the dump-sters are constructed of noncombustible materials or ofcombustible materials with a peak rate of heat release notexceeding 300 kW/m2 when tested in accordance withASTM E 1354 at an incident heat flux of 50 kW/m2 in thehorizontal :1.
