HEPATITIS A FACT SHEET What is hepatitis A? Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver disease caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV). Hepatitis A is not caused by the same virus as hepatitis B or hepatitis C, although all three of these diseases can cause similar symptoms.
